they need to double down. because barack obama if he wins ohio, he could lose virginia and florida and still win. >> they have been doubling down. they spent all of this time in ohio and because of sandy spent more time in ohio. but if we look at early voting polling that is coming out of ohio and then florida, the president leads. is it the obama ground game that's really pushing them ahead? >> it's the obama ground game. ironically it's also the republican party. when i was in ohio and talked to voters there and called people in florida who were doing early vote there, a lot of what's motivating really record african-american early vote turnout in north carolina, in florida and in ohio is anger about the tone of the republican party on things like voting rights, on things like voter i.d., on what they see as voter suppression. so they're equal part defense of president obama and anger at the republican party. it's driving what looks to be potentially record early african-american vote which only helps the president. >> and lastly the president leading with overwhelming support when voters

's begin by putting those states back in the obama column here for a minute. and i will explain. so that is at 243. the issue is this, you have the romney campaign believing virginia and florida is theirs. they really do believe they will r win colorado. if you moved iowa, new hampshire, and wisconsin over to there, hiohio is the one in pla. it could put either one of them over the top. it could put romney at 275 or it could put obama at 281. let's say you believe you can't win ohio if you're the mitt romney campaign. you have to take away 12 electoral votes from him. well, boy, pennsylvania, you could steal that. look at how that would change the map. and that would given you more. but pennsylvania is not going to work, well, how about the state of your birth. if you couldn't take michigan, again, you could change the math. boy, did they take a long time to mess with that. i'm going to give them more credit. there is a republican super pac laying the groundwork in minnesota for months called the american future fund, it's a bunch of folks mostly out of iowa but they've been pouring

of florida today while president obama holds off until tomorrow. he is meeting with the jersey governor chris christie to tour the damage such in the wake of the storm. the columnist of the national -- national review and executive director of public knows. i'm going to start with you. i watched the press conference with chris christie and the president. let me tell you, is chris christie the governor who was supporting mitt romney or not? , a little confused. >> well, remember that he is running for reelection in 2013 in new jersey, which has not voted for republican for president in over 20 years. so it's good politics for him, and, frankly, so far he is very pleased with of the federal government has been responding to his requests for aid and assistance. 62 percent of new jersey, i lived in new jersey, is without power. that is a lot of angry potential voters if he does not get something done. so i think he is putting policy and his own politics temporarily ahead of mitt romney's. gerri: fascinating to watch, and i could not help but think maybe romney will have some kind of response down
line on this is is i have obama winning 294 to 244. i guess the key there is i say obama is going to take virginia. this is a state romney really needs to win. i've given romney north carolina and florida, swing states and ohio, romney colorado. give obama ohio and new hampshire. i think the point i want to make about this map is a broader one and it's a criticism and an expression of bafflement about the romney campaign strategy. if you look at that map, to win to get to 270, they have to win virginia, florida, north carolina. got to win colorado. putting that together, pick off ohio or some combination of wisconsin and plus new hampshire, iowa, nevada. a combination there and the polls out of ohio and wisconsin, not looking good for romney. to me the issue is this. there are states on the map that could have been competitive. oregon, michigan, minnesota, pennsylvania and even maybe where obama had big margins in 2008 like 15, 16-point margins but you have to go back to 2004 to see, you know, a three-point race in minnesota. a three-point race in michigan. these are states, there
